Advanced Program
Our Advanced Program begins no earlier than six months, but can begin as late as 24 months, and it ends whenever the dog is at the desired level of performance. This program is intended to pick up where the Starter Program ends. However, we are also more than happy to start a dog in this program with no Starter training. It is anticipated that dogs with no training will take longer to complete the Advanced Program because their work will also include Starter Program content.
For dogs in the Advanced Program that have had some Starter training we fully expect to accomplish the following within three months:
With additional time, training would progress to complete steadiness during the point (wing, shot, and fall). As mentioned before, dogs progress through training at different speeds, so an exact timetable is not possible. Still, the majority of dogs that begin this program with Starter training will at least accomplish these outlined goals within three months.
Importantly, the Advanced Program can be tailored to fit the individual owner's needs and expectations. For example, some owners will be hunting wild birds with their dog and may not feel it necessary that the dog be fully broke, i.e., steady to wing, shot, and fall. However, other owners may also plan to participate in AKC Hunt Tests or one of several different field-trial formats, in which case detailed attention to steadiness, backing, and retrieving becomes more important. We strive to help owners reach their individual dog training goals and to help each dog meet its full potential.
The Advanced Program is $600 per month, which includes up to 10 quail. Your dog also must stay up to date on vaccinations.

For dogs in the Advanced Program that have had some Starter training we fully expect to accomplish the following within three months:
- Hunting for birds intelligently and with intensity
- Working cover with the hunter--responding to whistle and verbal commands
- Pointing with intensity and steady to flush, holding point until the hunter flushes the bird
- Retrieving birds to hand
- Backing another dog on point
